Notes on Support

- Server installations can use standard kernels and are supported primarily on RHEL and SLES.  Kernel patches may be used to fix issues in the distro kernels, or enable some features in older kernels.
- Client installations can use standard kernels with provided modules and are available on all listed distributions.
- For older versions, such as SLES 15 SP6 or Ubuntu 22.04, refer to maintenance releases (2.15.x).
- ldiskfs (enhanced ext4) is the default and needs a patch series for the kernel; ZFS backend is optional and requires additional setup.
- Always verify kernel compatibility in the Lustre ChangeLog or manual.

For more details, see the Lustre Operations Manual (updated August 2025).
